To accurately demonstrate accountability, support the development of individual student record systems, and comply with No Child Left Behind requirements and other data-intensive initiatives, state and local education agencies require a rigorous and objective means of validating and improving the quality of their data. A critical element of any existing system transformation or systems integration is to first understand the quality of the data in each source, then to ensure the quality and integrity of the resultant data. Data should be audited at key points throughout the transformation process, to prevent corruption, truncation, improper mapping or defects resulting from potential flaws in transformation logic.
